Historical Hussites-Festival
The Hussite Age is over. However, they do not disappear from the town’s history and stories. Every year Bernau’s citizens celebrate the Hussite-Festival very solemnly.

Returning as a victor from Pomerania the Elector Friedrich Wilhelm got a warm hearty welcome from the authorities, the clergy and the inhabitants of Bernau.
“.......The council and the preachers were present at the table. Bows, arrows and crossbows of the Hussites were to be seen....the Elector was very delighted.

In 1832 the first Hussite-Festival was celebrated and even the Prussian Royal Family was present at it.
The Prussian King gave a big painting to the town as a present. Its title is “The Hussites Battle of Bernau”.
Since then the town’s foundation ceremony had always been celebrated as an indication of Hussite-Festivals in the 19th century.

On May 15th, 1882, after the victory over France and the imperial unification of 1870/71, the Hussite-Festival took place with the participation of the Crown Prince Friedrich III., the Crown Princess Victoria and her daughter. The 450th anniversary was celebrated in a magnificent way. “.......During the whole procession the Crown Prince was standing on the town hall’s flight of stairs. With obvious pleasure he followed the performance of the citizens.
